NOT YET CONVINCED? READ ON...

ALWAYS READY WHEN YOU ARE - COMPUTER OPPONENT

No matter if it is in the middle of the night or your coffee break, your computer is always ready for a match. Choose from three difficulty levels, according to your skill. For those who only want to play against the best, there is an world class artificial intelligence opponent available as an in-app purchase (more below). Casual play or competitive match? True Backgammon has an opponent for you that is fun to play with or that is a teeth grinding challenge.

PLAY WITH HUMANS NEAR YOU - GAME BOARD MODE

Imagine you are together with friends and you want to pass some time with a match? Or you sit on a train, playing against the computer and one of your commuters turns out to be a backgammon player too? You don't need to carry a real board with you all the time. Instead True Backgammon is your board. Play against friends and acquaintances, any time and anywhere.

CONNECT WITH FRIENDS OR PLAY AGAINST RANDOM OPPONENTS ONLINE - GAME CENTER

You prefer to play against humans rather than an AI, but there is no prospective opponent in sight? Become part of the daily growing community of people who play True Backgammon online on an iPad, iPhone, iPod, iMac or MacBook. There's always someone willing to play a match. And you don't just play with them, you can also talk to them via built-in voice chat.

BEAUTY IS IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER - GAME BOARDS

We didn't just strive to make a good AI and fluid gameplay, we also made it our mission to make it look good. No, not just good... we wanted to make them look drop dead gorgeous good. We found a skilled designer and then tortured him with feedback until we were satisfied. The result are two boards (metal and wood) which look awesome, while providing little visual distraction to let you focus on your strategy. And for those who love a little distraction, we let the designer run wild with a selection of (optional) fancy boards, rich with decor and beautiful details. Which one is your favorite?

AAAND ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BOARD, A MULTIPLE OLYMPIC CHAMPION AI - BEEE GEEEE BLITZ

From time to time there is an olympic tournament for backgammon programs. We managed to convince the maker of the three times winner BGBlitz to make his AI available to the users of True Backgammon. This AI is a world class opponent for those who only want to match up against the best. And it is a patient mentor. BGBlitz offers a tutor mode, that will point out moves that are less than optimal, and it will show better ones.

WHAT ELSE CAN WE SAY?

Long story short, we put a lot of effort into this app, not just into the game play, but on every level. If you choose it, we are sure you will not be disappointed.

What's New in Version 4.20

Version 2.1 prior review of 1.06 retained.

:
I played quite a bit with this new version before writing this review. My previously reported bugs were fixed with this release. I think the dice play seems more realistic than prior version 1.06. I felt the game was fairly balanced as far as luck was happening. I have read the one star reviews, and I don't believe they are a fair assessment of the game. It is a very nice app. It has never crashed. Most importantly, I keep playing it...a lot. How can that be worth only one star!

Version 1.-6 review from July 16, 2010: 5 Stars
This game feels right! It is a world of difference. The dice feel normal for the first time. I have had so many emails with this guy who is developing this app that you would think we were dating. WE ARE NOT.. :)) Never met him. I have been rude at times, I have been unforgiving at times, but I have tried to be supportive most of the time. I stayed with his game because I liked the interface. But I also liked what appeared to me that he had great integrity. Reading reviews from the other games, I have come to one conclusion. This obviously is a very tough game to develop. I am sure the mechanics is easy coding. But to get it to feel right takes a whole different technique and probably would be considered an art. I am quite happy with this update. It is by far, the most played game on my iPad. Of course, knowing me, now that it is working so great, I will probably loose interest and go find something else to complain about! j/k

Arrgh

:
Excellent app. Very real. Totally addicted to this game. Play it 20-30 times a day! Even dice seem mostly random (except not on opening throw which overwhelmingly goes to computer Opponent).

Sad to say you lost a star from me this time. Latest round of updates very disappointing and annoying. Wish I could downgrade. Extra work for player now. Have to choose human or computer every match - grrr. Plus the 'undo moves' function is no longer smooth but now clunky and loud. Faster maybe but not elegant. And why can't Player see the point total during the opponent's turn? This function is only active during Player turn. Which means when Opponent doubles, Player can't check the point count before agreeing or resigning. Please stop fiddling with it. The app was nearly perfect. Just keep working on the dice. Then go and develop some other wonderful app.

Not Fun At All

:
2.01 is the worst yet. Developer is obviously not listening to its customers. The reviews tell all and you can see by the overwhelmingly disappointed people here. Graphics and game play are top notch of all BG games in app store but dice are still loaded and even worse in this newest update. Open throw 90% to computer. Doubles are ridiculous in favor of AI. Another annoying "new" feature in this version is every time I start a new game now I have to choose my game whether it be a human or computer, there is no way to save your settings as I always play computer it asks me every new game, dumb. It's too bad, this could be an amazing game but developer just doesn't care to listen to these reviews.
